Your Role as a Network Marketer
Getting into network marketing has been good for me. Throughout my different careers, I have always worked on improving myself. My areas for improvement are professionally, educationally, spiritually, inspirationally, and motivationally. You get the picture?. In network marketing, I find it no different and in fact more important. I look at the leaders and attend their events, read their books and courses, and listen to their webinars and videos. Recently I learned about “Role as a Network Marketer”. I was listening to Eric Worre and he introduced there are three roles or positions of network marketing people. Read on and I will present the roles and the differences.
Posers
One role as a Network Marker is “Poser“. Being a “Poser” is pretty much like purchasing a lottery ticket. When you purchase a lottery ticket, you are hoping that you hit it big and get to sit back and enjoy life. A poser makes a mental list of a few people that will most likely join their business. They hope one or more will do well. If they have not made some money in a few weeks then they are ready to quit. These people are more like opportunity jumpers and jump from one opportunity to another.
Amateurs
These people instead of making a mental list like a Poser would do, they create a written list. Like the “Posers” they hope for luck in finding that person who has the swagger and posture that is going to hit it big and bring in lots of residual income for them.
Amateurs’ Actions
These people rush out with some skills. As time goes by they watch their list grow smaller and their fears grow larger. Eventually, everyone on his or her list knows what you are doing and have either said yes or no. Rather than concentrating on improving the skill of adding to the list, the amateurs begin questioning their position. They focus on questions like: am I in the right organization? Do I have the right up-line? Are people in a better position than me? Will I do better somewhere else? These people look for shortcuts and angles. They do not focus on something to become a master.
Professionals
The Last Role as a Network Marker is “Professional“. As a professional, you:
- do not focus on luck
- are not hoping for the winning lottery ticket,
- are not looking for shortcuts or angles to make that fast buck.
Instead, a professional hones their skills in finding new people to talk with. A professional is an expert who has the skills required to build a large successful network.
Skills of a Professional
Some of the skills you need or must learn are How to:
- Find prospects (Lead Generation)
- Invite your prospects to learn about your product or opportunity
- Present your product or opportunity to your prospects (Presentation)
- Help your prospects become customers or distributors
- Teach your distributors to do the same steps (duplication)
Friends and Relationships
I will share a comment from Harvey Mackay the author of the book “How to swim with the sharks without being eaten alive”. He says at the age of 18, his father sat him down and said “Harvey, starting today and for the rest of your life, I want you to take every person you meet, get their contact information and find a creative way to stay in touch”.
He has done this for over 60 years and has a list of over 12,000 friends. They are not social media friends; they are real friends. As a professional, your need is to become a student of the profession. But at the same, you must be careful and not get stuck as a professional student. As you learn, you must take action. The best thing to do is like Ray Higdon coined: “invest, learn, teach (ILT)”. As you learn, you teach to others, you create a team. Taking the action will create the profit.
